Sample projects demonstrating information
visualization
Information Visualization in Temporal & Clinical Databases
Clinical databases are generally large and complex. New tools
are needed to provide easy access to the needed information.
This VEDI project used a system to visualize considerable
amounts of temporal data in a single screenshot. In this VEDI
example, in the domain of hemodialysis, it is able to provide
an interactive visualization that summarizes tens of screenshots
used in traditional hemodialysis systems.
The proposed approach is based on the integration of 2D and
3D information visualization techniques, and offers a wide
set of interactive functionalities to manipulate the visualization
in order to meet individual requirements.
Location-Based Mobile Tourist Guides
Mobile tourist guides are a hot item, especially using Mashups
of Googlemaps.
On mobile devices, tourists and businessmen can access many
different services using PDAs or high-end mobile phones.
This project explored the use of 3D graphics in a location-based
mobile guide to visualize the current location of the user
to communicate desired information about objects of interests.
The project used a preference-based search tool to support
users in the search of points of interest in a geographic
area by combining dynamic queries with a visualization of
the degree of satisfaction of constraints set by the user.
It also explored different ways of providing navigation guidance
through a mobile guide, combining visual and audio directions.
