| Flash banner Ads. Love them or
hate them, the advertising industry embraced them as a much
needed cut through media element.
One of the very first banner ads adopted by the viewer included
the game of pong.
Advertising was moving into the entertainment arena, within
the limited 468 x 60 banner space available.
Rich media spurned from smaller companies experimenting in
specific visual effects. They developed not only animated
graphics, but ways in which the media could be embedded to
facilitate fast loading by the user.
- Unicast - developed a rich media ad type
which cached small portions of the creative over multiple
pages. Each portion downloaded quicky and was displayed
as a single large sized creative. This is not disimilar
in approach to using interlacing for static images.
- United Virtualities - developed the first
ever"Floating ad". Floating ads appear to float
over the webpage content in a separate layer.
- PointRoll - developed the "expanding
ad" ; changing size based on user interaction.
- Accela Communications' AccelaCast inBanner -
allowed for the delivery of long form rich media via standard
banner ad placements.
- AccelaCast inBanner - delivers 10-60
minutes of video within an ad unit.
Since these pioneering technologies, others have emerged
to further faciliate rich media into the web world.
adInterax is extending the above formats
to enable almost any creative vision to be embedded and played
within a webpage.
Rich Media has evolved into sophisticated formats such as
Interactive Videos with Games and Ooqa Ooqa branded browsers.
